About Our Food Pantry
At our food bank, we are committed to fighting hunger and serving our community with compassion, dignity, and hope. As a ministry of New Covenant Church Columbus GA, our mission is to ensure that no one in our area goes without the basic nourishment they need. Founded by Pastor Sharon Smith, our pantry has grown from a small outreach into a vital resource for families and individuals facing food insecurity. Whether it’s a one-time emergency or ongoing support, we offer a variety of nutritious food options, fresh produce, and essential household items—free of charge. We believe that everyone deserves access to healthy food and a welcoming space. Our team of dedicated volunteers works tirelessly to serve our neighbors with kindness and respect, regardless of background or circumstance. If you or someone you know is in need, or if you’d like to join us in making a difference through donations or volunteering, we invite you to connect with us. Together, we can build a stronger, healthier community—one meal at a time.
About the Director
My name is Sharon Smith, and I serve as the Associate Pastor and Director of the Food Bank at New Covenant Church in Columbus, GA, where we are committed to serving and loving others.
I was born and raised in Columbus, GA, and grew up in a local Assembly of God Church. I’ve been involved in ministry most of my life, beginning as a Sunday School teacher at a young age. I earned a Bachelor of Secondary Education from Southeastern Bible College (Lakeland, FL) and a Master’s in Secondary Education from Columbus University (Columbus, GA).
For 12 years, I served as a missionary in Athens, Greece, and Frankfurt, Germany. Upon returning to the U.S., I earned a Master of Divinity in Pastoral Counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio. I later pursued chaplaincy studies at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA, and spent 10 years as a hospice chaplain at Columbus Hospice, serving the Columbus, GA, and Phenix City, AL areas. During that time, I also earned a Doctorate of Pastoral Ministry from the Universal Life Church (online).
I met Pastors Colley and Danny while attending a funeral for one of my hospice patients and began attending New Covenant Church in 2019.
My philosophy of ministry centers on the Great Commission—serving and loving others as commanded by our Lord Jesus Christ. I love that NCC Columbus is a church that welcomes and accepts everyone. Teaching, training, and equipping believers to grow in their walk with Christ is one of my greatest passions.
